‘The Entertainers’ by Michael John Hunt Oil on Canvas
It has been written that Michael was born too late but also too soon. His love of traditional interiors is well known, much admired and his paintings are eagerly sought after. Michael also likes to capture mediaeval costume worn by ‘ordinary’ folks. He doesn’t find much satisfaction in what we wear today as far as subjects for paintings are concerned. The abundant material and the textures as well as the style in medieval times are difficult to achieve with today’s modern fashions.
Just look at the colours – vibrant! The folds, the flow, the feel of the material. And then look at the texture of the bags the ladies have hanging from their waists. The blue bag has a different feel to the brown bag. And the leather shoes have yet another texture, laces akimbo. You can almost hear the beat of the drum as it is about to be struck. Shall we follow?
